Summary

I am the president of Usable Webs. Prior to this I spent ten years in management positions in three consulting firms. Before that I had my own technical communications consulting firm for three years. In all these positions I created documentation, training materials, and Web design standards and methodologies and managed projects.

During all of these years I also produced a wide variety of documentation and web sites. I have over six years' experience in each of the following areas:

  • Technical writing. Always an evangelist for user needs. Includes paper and online deliverables, ranging from user manuals to technical materials to online help to white papers. Work involved information design, project planning, documentation plans, estimating and editing of others work. Created standards and guidelines.

  • Instructional design and standup training. These assignments were scattered among other contract jobs over this period of time.

  • Project, team and department management involving concurrent multiple projects, people, and skills. Performed sales support and marketing activities. Created and managed to budgets.

  • Design and creation of usability-based Internet and intranet sites, including web-based applications. Trained in web usability and the use of web tools.

  • Performance of usability assessments of Internet and intranet sites and applications

Presenter of workshops and sessions at six Society for Technical Communications annual conferences on topics such as project management, selecting software tools, and writing for the Web.

Winner of several Society for Technical Communication competition awards.

Member of technical communications advisory boards for Milwaukee School of Engineering and Waukesha County Technical College.
