Anacortes Activities
Our Itinerary Suggestions
1. You have one day, but don't mind spending some
money
- Early in the morning we will get up and go on a whale watching trip (May to September)
- In the afternoon we will drive to the top of Mt. Erie. Here you can see fantastic views
of the Cascades, the Olympics, and the islands. If we want, we can take some short hikes
in the forest.
- After that, we can drive out to Washington
Park and sit by the sound or walk in the forest.
- We can then do some shopping in Anacortes or LaConner.
- We will make reservations for dinner at Chuckanut Manor. Before dinner we can go for a
drive on Chuckanut.
2. You have one day, but want to keep expenses
down
 |
- If it's summer, we can take the ferry out to San Juan Island and walk around. If we take
the car we can drive to a place where, if we're lucky, we might see the whales from land.
If not, it is a beautiful trip.
- Or we can take the ferry to Victoria and see Butchert Gardens or just wander around
Victoria and have afternoon tea.
|
- Or we can go fishing or hiking right here on Fidalgo Island.
- Anacortes and LaConner are both nice towns to wander around in.
- We can take Chuckanut drive (see above) up to Bellingham and go to Western Washington
University's botanical gardens and the park there that has a rose garden.
- We can eat fresh oysters or other fresh seafood, including Dungeness crab, at a local
inexpensive restaurant or buy some to take home.

3. You have one or more days and are up for outdoors
activities
- Okay--now there is more to do than you will have time for, unless it is pouring the
whole time you are here. Check out the links page again for the activities that interest
you.
- Out here people don't wear jeans or other cotton clothes for hiking, etc. If you get
rained on it takes too long to dry out and you get chilled. You need wicking underwear,
polartex fleece, and rain proof (like GoreTex) jackets. You dress in layers.
- We can rent kayaks, you can go rock climbing, and there are always hikes from easy to
strenuous--both around here, in the Olympics, and in the Cascades.
- We could also take the day and drive the North Cascades Loop. This would be best saved
for late summer. This drive would go to alpine meadows. We would be in the mountains and
have spectacular views.
