women or children, appeared in the newspapers and the Week-End.

friends of the family. Mrs. Marquand also there. She was friend of Addies

Then Gerald comes to SF to see son, after 3 weeks goes to
Treadwell.

Family moves to Danville, sometime after Xmas 1910, where
Gerald joins brother-in-law in chicken farming. He builds them a house
on their land, and also tries to sell real estate.

At some point in 1912 Dodge Publishing publishes another
version of The Rubaiyat which has been hand colored. The borders around
the text are redone. Credit for the work goes to both Adelaide and Blanche
Cumming.

Feb--A letter from Gerald to Jerry, 2/27/14, is from Kellogg.
Mentions helping Mama and liking machinery.
Letter indicates that she has sent the photos for the Sonnets
to the publisher. (8/1 she sent. Letter in response dated 8/17 and sent
to Kellogg)
Sept. Back in Danville. She is listed as the drawing teacher
for the Danville High School in 1914. |

Jan.—Adelaide and kids are in Danville.
Father in Kellogg. Studio is built by Uncle Ed. Home added to and finished
by Uncle Ed. Gerald sent telegram to Jerry from Kellogg, dated 3/8/15.
Also one dated 1/27/15--sent to Rancho El Rio, Danville.
During summer family in Kellogg. Watching
barnstorming at 4th of July celebration. Jerry remembers Kellogg,
he was 6 1/2. Remembers watching barnstorming and air balloons.
Sonnets published
Jerry started school in Danville in first grade. Adelaide
teaching in the high school. |

1916, spring |
Spring—Gerald goes to Vancouver and enlists
in Canadian Army, He was a British citizen. He did this without going
to California to visit his family first. Family rumor says they had argued,
and were unreconciled.
By at least July Adelaide and kids live
in Danville. Auntie May has adjoining property, and a family named Harris
live near. Mrs. Harris does the wash and some heavy work. Francis Harris,
her son, is Jerry's age. Sometime around now Adelaide dressed Jerry in
"quaint" clothes even when he went to school. He got in fist
fights over it.

Gerald is killed in Regina
Trench. Fell on a grenade to save his companions.

Wardner Kellogg News Friday Nov. 17, 1916
Reported Dead. Word has been received here that Frank Leeson,
former employee of the Bunker Hill, who enlisted in a Canadian regiment,
had met death on the battlefield in the fighting around Verdun. He leaves
a wife and family residing in California. Leeson was at one time chief
of police at Dawson City, in the days of the gold rush to the Klondike. |

1/13 Meldon died following
a "brief illness."
She becomes a Christian Scientist. Gerald joined in 1913.
Jerry is attending a private school in Berkeley,
run by Christian Scientists. She is known to have auditory hallucinations.
There is some evidence of withdrawal and depression. |

They move to Carmel and Adelaide keeps house for a widower.
Jerry goes to fifth grade here. They were here about 9 months.
Jerry first really becomes aware that she is not all right.
First irrational behavior. Uncle Wilton comes down and gets them and takes
them back to Grandmothers in Berkeley. About 2-3 weeks later, as she is
even more irrational, she is committed. |

Admitted 3/16/20 to
Agnews State Mental Hospital. Discharged 10/20. Readmitted 12/20, discharged
11/27/22. (Cat started Pince Cone in May/1919 and went to Sept..) School
started a month late in 1919 because of raging influenza epidemic. Brigman
visited.
In Berkeley. Jerry goes to Hillside school for sixth grade. |

In Agnews all year.
The children live in Berkeley with Auntie May during the
week while she teaches, and in Danville on weekends. This goes on during
the whole 2 years of hospitalization. At some point they visit their mother

Jerry going to Garfield Junior High. Seventh and eighth
grades, fall 21 to spring 23.

They live in Danville, but she has little control over the
children. Jerry skips school. Then her mother dies and what little
emotional support and help Adelaide was getting was gone. She takes her
part of the inheritance and goes to England. |

They go to England in December of 1923. Jerry lives with
relatives. Kit lives with mother some times, in boarding school others.
They are all together on holidays. First year she lives in London, and
tries suicide from depression. Next 2.5 years she lives in various places
in the country. Did some miniatures. |

On April 11, her brother Eddie died. |

1927 |
June. They return to the states. Adelaide goes first, and
Jerry follows. They meet in Nebraska where he is to go to college. Adelaide
and Jerry live together for the year in Lincoln NE. |

Kit returns from England and she and her mother go to Berkeley.
Kit goes to U of C for one year. Her mother begins to do watercolors.
Quite a few are dated this year. She also is working on a poem, illustrating
it. Paints a lot in Marin County.

Kit goes to Pasadena. Mother is living alone. |

1931, Nov. 19 |
Adelaide is getting off a trolley in Pasadena and is hit
and killed by a hit and run driver. Happened in the fall. Kit did
not invite aunts since they had not been supportive of her. Unclear if
she was buried or if ashes were scattered at sea.
