On his death, the Berkeley city council passed this resolution:

Resolution for Late Auditor

Jan. 17, 1919.
RESOLUTION PASSED FOR LATE AUDITOR
A resolution of condolence because of the death of City Auditor M. L. Hanscom was adopted by the city council this morning. When the council adjourned, it was in memory of the late auditor. The resolution follows:

"Whereas, death has closed the long and honorable life of our City Auditor, Meldon Le Roy Hanscom; and

"Whereas, his interest in Berkeley was practically continuous, as shown by his record, first, as Clerk to the Town Marshal, Tax Collector and Superintendent of Streets, then as Town Clerk, and for fourteen years last passed as Auditor, covering altogether a period of twenty-five years; and

"Whereas, in every position and in all relations, he was exemplary in honor, duty, loyalty and all noble attributes; be it therefore

"Resolved, that the City Council of Berkeley extends to the widow and family of our deceased friend, its deep and sincere sympathy; and be it further 

"Resolved, that the Council here records its highest appreciation of the personal and official character of Auditor Hanscom, and of the long years of honorable and faithful service he gave the city; be it finally

"Resolved, that when the Council adjourns, it do so as an act of respect to the memory of our late friend and brother official, and that the Clerk of the Council be directed to forward copies of this resolution to the family and to the press."
